December 10, 2016The Archdiocese has announced that St. Mary's Chapel, the original ABVM Parish Church, will be relegated to profane but not sordid status as of January 11, 2017. The building has been closed for a couple of years. This formal proclamation by Archbishop Chaput indicates that it will no longer officially be reserved for worship. The decree of relegation is published in this weekend's parish bulletin. The stained-glass windows have already been removed and preserved; some of them will be integrated into the new church. The altar will be used for the 4:30 Christmas Eve Mass in the Parish Center. The painting of the Passion over the altar is being restored. Everything else of value has been or will soon be removed. Let us thank God for the great gift that St. Mary's was to our parish community for more than a century, even as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the consecration of the new church on December 8, 2001.
