PARISH DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
2017 – 2018 ANNUAL REPORT
The Parish Development Council was established by Father Scott in April 2016. The purpose of the Council is to develop alternate sources of funding for Assumption BVM Parish, including the Parish school. The Development Council has raised more than $200,000 for the Parish and School in non-offertory funds and non-tuition funds this past year,
The Development Council has seven Committees, each with up to five members.
STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: Sandy Gosline is chairperson of the Stewardship Committee which is focused on time and talent. This Committee very successfully conducted a Ministry Weekend last Fall which led to increased membership in several parish ministries. The Stewardship Committee is developing a plan for a picnic to recognize all of our ministry volunteers and Parish donors in the Fall of 2018.
MAJOR GIFTS COMMITTEE: Sean Bogda is chairperson of the Major Gifts Committee. This Committee successfully raised $33,000 last winter, primarily for non-budgeted costs associated with the transition to the new rectory..
DONOR RELATIONS COMMITTEE: John Lynch is chairperson of the Donor Relations Committee. which sponsored a Donor Appreciation Reception and Dinner in the Parish Life Center in April for the top dozen Parish financial donors.
MEMORIALS COMMITTEE: Dennis Shannon is chairperson of the Memorials Committee which solicits donations for the memorials. These include the windows in the adoration chapel and the dormers in the church. Most recently we have obtained donors for portraits of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and St. Cecilia in the PLC. Also, a parishioner has donated funds for an Assumption BVM Icon for the chapel in the new rectory.
PLANNED GIVING COMMITTEE: Gene Fogarty is acting Chairperson of the Planned Giving Committee. The Planned Giving Committee is focused on efforts to develop more income from wills and endowments from our parishioners. There is an emphasis in asking parishioners to consider the Parish in their estate planning.
SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE: Tony D’Amico and Maggie Ptakowski are co-chairpersons of the School Development Committee which is very active in achieving additional sources of revenue other than tuition for the Parish school. The Committee has been effective in gaining business and parishioner involvement in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program, acquiring commitments over $48,000 this year. In all, the Committee has acquired almost $70,000 in additional non-tuition money this year.
ANNUAL PARISH APPEAL COMMITTEE: Gene Fogarty is chairperson of the Annual Parish Appeal Committee. As of May 27, 2018 the 2018 Parish Appeal has pledges of $115,600 and cash in hand of $101,567. Our goal for this year (11-1-2017 to 10-31-18) is $150,000.
