Please join us in a prayerful public witness in support of the Little Sisters of the Poor as their arguments in defense of their religious freedom are heard in the Supreme Court on March 23, 2016. More information and the flyer are below. There is also a prayer that Archbishop Chaput has asked us to pray especially tomorrow.
We are expecting local media at the Prayer Vigil, so let's show them that there are many of us who support the Little Sisters and their fidelity to the Church's teachings!
See you tomorrow,
Meghan Cokeley Office for the New Evangelization Archdiocese of Philadelphia
The Little Sisters of the Poor provide free, compassionate care for the elderly poor. They are facing $70 million in government fines for refusing to violate their Catholic faith.
Women in the greater Philadelphia area, join us as we gather in peaceful witness in support of the Little Sisters of the Poor and their right to serve.
Women's Prayer Vigil in support of the Little Sisters of the Poor
Wednesday, March 23, 2016 10:30am-11:15am
on the steps of the Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter & Paul 18th & Benjamin Franklin Parkway Philadelphia, PA
Please consider bringing some of the following items for the residents of the Little Sisters’ Holy Family Home in Philadelphia: mouthwash ▪ Lubriderm cream ▪ Dove Body wash
In addition, on March 23rd, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments challenging the HHS Mandates by the Dioceses of Pittsburgh and Erie. On behalf of Archbishop Chaput, I ask that you dedicate time on Wednesday to joining in prayerful solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are leading this round of the struggle.
A prayer regarding this matter has been developed by the Diocese of Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference (PCC). The text is below and attached. You can also learn more but visiting the PCC’s website at http://www.pacatholic.org/oral-arguments-in-hhs-mandate-on-march-23/.
Father of Mercy, in whose hands rest every human heart and the right of peoples:
Inspire, we pray, the Supreme Court Justices of our land so that freedom of religion might be upheld, not simply as the right to worship, but to live our faith in word and deed.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, and with the help of Mary, our dear Blessed Mother and Patroness of our Country. Amen.
Thanks, everyone! A blessed Paschal Triduum to each of you!
